This study aims to analyze the distribution environment of Korean short films and propose improvements for online screening platforms. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the domestic short film distribution network has been sharply curtailed, limiting the debut opportunities for budding directors and accessibility for audiences. For this reason, attempts to distribute short films on OTT and dedicated online screening platforms have increased. However, domestic online screening platforms have shown low utilization rates or do not actively support short films, limiting their contribution to revitalizing short film distribution. This study analyzes major domestic and international platforms dedicated to short films through a literature survey and derives recommendations for improving platforms to revitalize short film distribution in Korea. The proposed improvements include enhancing multi-channel accessibility, introducing curation and personalized recommendation systems, strengthening social network functions and expertise, establishing domestic and international cooperation networks, expanding public support, and improving policies. This study seeks to re-evaluate the value of short film distribution and hopes to contribute to revitalizing the Korean short film industry through more effective online screening platforms.
